The people of Uburu, located in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, are mourning the loss of nurse Mary Habila. Known for her selflessness and diligence, she was widely respected by those she served.
Habila worked in the office of Works Minister Senator David Umahi. She passed away while living in the staff quarters at the minister’s official residence, having been posted there for her professional responsibilities.
Locals remember her as humble and approachable. Mrs. Millicent Ekwe, a resident, shared an anecdote about Habila’s trusting nature. After being hired to style Habila’s hair in January, Ekwe was given Habila’s ATM card and PIN to purchase necessary hair accessories. This act of confidence strengthened their bond, leaving Ekwe with a lasting positive impression of the late nurse.
Chief Nicholas Onu, the President-General of the Eweze Uburu Autonomous Community, noted that many residents mistook her for a local due to her frequent involvement in community affairs. As a member of the medical team accompanying the Minister of Works, Habila regularly provided first aid and emergency care during local empowerment initiatives. Her attentiveness toward women and children made her a beloved figure, and her passing is seen as a profound loss for the area.
