Five Militiamen Detained and Weapon Seized by Military in Benue

Military forces in Benue State captured five suspected militia members, seized a firearm, and demolished insurgent camps during a targeted operation in Otukpo.

Soldiers serving with Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) captured five individuals believed to be militia members during a sweep in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. This mission took place at approximately 8:00 a.m. on July 17, involving personnel from the Forward Operating Bases based in Otukpo and Oju.

The troops focused their efforts on known militant hideouts located throughout the Otukpo-Nobi, Amichio, and Amula Forest regions. In addition to the five arrests, soldiers confiscated a homemade Dane gun along with five 7.62mm Special ammunition rounds. To ensure the locations could not be reoccupied, the military destroyed the militia’s camps.

Currently, the detainees are being held by the military for initial questioning. Meanwhile, security forces are maintaining their presence to locate and neutralize remaining members of the criminal network in the district.
