Soldiers under Operation HADIN KAI effectively countered a joint assault by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on the Forward Operating Base located in Gajigana, Borno State. The encounter resulted in significant losses for the militant group.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the incident began around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. A large force of terrorists arrived on motorcycles and in two gun trucks, while a secondary group of fighters approached on foot. Alert soldiers from the 212 Battalion identified the threat early and countered the strike with intense fire, causing the militants to pull back.
Following the initial clash, the Commanding Officer of the 212 Battalion brought in reinforcements to secure the area. Intelligence reports indicate that the attackers retreated with multiple casualties, carrying several of their fallen comrades away. Two Nigerian soldiers were wounded in the exchange and were transported to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for care. A military vehicle sustained minor damage from rocket-propelled grenade shrapnel during the fighting. The military plans to conduct a thorough search of the site at dawn to assess the full impact of the engagement and secure any abandoned assets.
