The Imo State branch of the Action Peoples’ Party (APP) has reported that unidentified individuals stormed its Owerri office early Sunday morning. The party characterized this intrusion as a significant risk to democratic norms and the maintenance of peace in the region.
Around 6:10 am, armed intruders reportedly climbed the facility’s perimeter fence to break in. Witnesses have linked the event to an aide of the Imo State governor and his associates. During the raid, party signage and campaign tools located on the grounds were damaged.
State Publicity Secretary Steve Nnamdi released a statement labeling the event a troubling threat to the state’s political stability. He noted that this follows other intimidation incidents in Umuoyima and Arondizuogu. The APP is now urging the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to conduct an unbiased investigation to ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
Emphasizing that political groups have a constitutional right to operate safely, the party has requested that Governor Hope Uzodinma intervene to restrain political actors. The APP also encouraged its members to stay calm and avoid retaliation as authorities investigate the matter.
