Soldiers from the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army raided an unauthorized bunkering site in Orile, Lagos, over the weekend, resulting in the apprehension of six suspects. The operation took place on July 16, 2026, after authorities received intelligence regarding economic sabotage in the region.
Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that the raid led to the seizure of four drums, including two filled with petroleum products presumed to be refined illegally. Additionally, troops confiscated a Ford bus and a tanker reportedly used to facilitate these crimes. The detainees and the seized evidence have been transferred to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Lagos State Command for investigation.
Major General Adebayo Babalola, GOC of the 81 Division, praised the troops for their professionalism. He emphasized that the Army remains dedicated to protecting national infrastructure and removing criminal threats. He also called on the public to maintain support by reporting suspicious activities to security forces.
