Bauchi State authorities have successfully captured two individuals involved in the theft of a 2022 Toyota Hilux, which was transported from Jos, Plateau State. This operation is considered a significant success in the ongoing effort to combat property theft.
SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, stated that the vehicle was taken on July 17, 2026, while parked at Oasis Bakery in Bukuru, Jos. The owner, a 48-year-old from Kwata Zawan, reported that the crime involved individuals impersonating military members.
Following intelligence reports, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspects at Larema Hotel in Bauchi on Saturday. The detainees were identified as Ibrahim Tijjani, a 31-year-old former Nigerian Army Lieutenant discharged in 2021, and 33-year-old Umar Muhammad.
Tijjani admitted to stealing the Hilux and further confessed to stealing two other vehicles from Bauchi previously. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the officers for their work. He noted that the force has recovered six vehicles in early July 2026. The Hilux has been restored to its owner, and the suspects remain in custody pending formal charges.
