Brazilian midfielder Ederson has secured a contract extension with Atalanta, officially ending speculation regarding a move to Manchester United. The Premier League club had initially settled on a 35 million pound transfer fee for the 27-year-old in early June.
Plans for a medical examination were delayed after Ederson received a last-minute summons to represent Brazil in the World Cup following an injury to teammate Wesley. Once he traveled to England for assessment following Brazil’s exit from the tournament, internal health concerns identified during the screening process prompted Manchester United to withdraw their offer.
Although reports previously suggested the transfer might be revived under different conditions, Ederson has chosen to remain with the Serie A club. Atalanta officials have not disclosed the specific duration of this renewed agreement. Meanwhile, Manchester United has shifted focus, completing the signings of midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
