A group of six out of 11 candidates who participated in the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) primary have formally protested the selection of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer. The primary contest included 11 notable participants: Adebayo Adelabu, Adewale Kareem, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Akeem Agbaje, Hakeem Alao, Rauf Olaniyan, Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Musibau Asanike, Abdulfatai Buhari, Ololade Bakare, and Sharafadeen Alli.
The dissenting group comprises Hakeem Alao, Rauf Olaniyan, Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Akeem Agbaje, Ololade Bakare, and Musibau Asanike. They contend that the party failed to adhere to standard procedures during the selection process. Consequently, these aspirants maintain that the APC currently lacks a valid gubernatorial candidate, as the party has not yet satisfied mandatory electoral requirements.
These sentiments were voiced following a session with a reconciliation committee headed by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and Professor Taoheed Adedoja. Speaking for the group, Hakeem Alao clarified that while they remain committed to the party, the current status of the candidacy is legally incomplete. He emphasized that the group is waiting for the committee to address their concerns, stating that they intend to support whoever is eventually selected through a proper process.
