Sowore Criticizes EFCC, Labels Agency a Symbol of Misplaced Priorities

African Action Congress candidate Omoyele Sowore claims the EFCC has lost its purpose, arguing the agency focuses on petty issues rather than significant corruption.

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate, has sharply attacked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Writing on his verified X account this Thursday, he described the anti-corruption agency as an entity defined by idleness and poor judgment.

Sowore made these remarks in response to the EFCC’s questioning of activists Peter Akah and Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee. The commission summoned the pair to explain allegations concerning the misuse of the Naira.

According to Sowore, the agency has lost its way, asserting that actual financial criminals operate outside its scope while the commission chooses to focus on softer targets. He argued that a body established to fight corruption must prioritize major issues like money laundering, theft of public assets, and procurement fraud. By pursuing minor matters, he claimed the EFCC is eroding public trust and has effectively become obsolete.
