Taraba Judiciary and Revenue Service Align on Tax Compliance Initiatives

The Taraba State Judiciary and the state’s internal revenue service are increasing collaboration to improve tax enforcement, with the Chief Judge promising to deploy mobile courts to support collection efforts.

The Taraba State Judiciary has pledged to work closely with the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service to boost local tax collection and streamline fiscal administration. Chief Judge Justice Joel F. Agya confirmed this cooperation during a meeting with TIRS Executive Chairman, Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (retd), held at the State High Court in Jalingo.

Justice Agya praised the agency’s recent updates, which have bolstered state revenue. He highlighted the success of the judiciary’s electronic filing system in promoting financial transparency, noting that the courts contributed N198 million to the state treasury in 2026. To support these goals, Agya ordered the creation of mobile courts to help enforce tax laws.

Highlighting the partnership, Agya noted that both organizations serve critical government functions. While the courts uphold the rule of law, the revenue service secures the funding necessary for public infrastructure. He expressed confidence that their ongoing cooperation will strengthen state governance.

Brigadier General Faransa thanked the judiciary for its support and requested more judicial resources to assist with tax enforcement efforts. He also reported that TIRS has moved to the Treasury Single Account system to improve accountability and prevent revenue leakage. Moving forward, the agency plans to implement payment procedures for agencies that help collect revenue, aiming to further stabilize the state’s financial health.
