The Yobe State House of Assembly is working to create a legal structure meant to resolve ongoing difficulties with unregulated building, inadequate physical planning, and environmental hazards throughout the state. During a public hearing regarding a bill to form the Urban Development and Regional Planning Authority, Speaker Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio confirmed the legislature’s dedication to this goal.
Mashio explained that the new authority would manage regional planning, boost infrastructure, stop random construction, and support environmental health. He noted that the agency would improve development standards and foster fair growth in both city and village areas. The Speaker praised the House Committee on Housing for conducting the session as a vital step in the legislative process.
Hon. Musa Lawan Majakura, who chairs the Housing Committee, encouraged attendees to examine the bill closely to ensure its effectiveness. He promised that the committee would review all feedback gathered during the event. Various groups contributed memos, including the Yobe Geographic Information Service, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Institute of Architects, town planners, surveyors, and local civil society representatives.
