NECO CBT Enhances Exam Integrity, Says Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad

Education officials and students confirm that the NECO computer-based testing format has successfully reduced examination malpractice while providing a smoother experience for candidates.

The federal government reports that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has successfully utilized computer-based testing to curb cheating. By providing unique sets of questions to each student, the system has disrupted coordinated efforts to bypass examination rules. Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, highlighted these findings during her visit to Redeemers school in Abuja.

Prof. Ahmad noted that students generally favor the digital format over traditional paper tests. She confirmed that the transition has been smooth, with no technical failures reported during the current Senior School Certificate Examination. While the government aims for a national rollout of this system, full implementation is contingent upon securing the required infrastructure to guarantee equity for all learners.

NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, echoed these sentiments, confirming that the examination cycle has proceeded without any technical issues. He stated that 1,378,048 students have registered for the 2026 session, with results anticipated by early September to facilitate timely university admissions. Participants, including Ambassador Alabi and Isaac Abioro, praised the platform for its efficiency, noting that the navigation is straightforward and the experience is superior to paper-based testing.
