The Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) recently voiced worry regarding the delayed and insufficient distribution of financial resources to the organization. Legislators warned that these monetary constraints may hinder the agency’s ability to fulfill its core duties. Despite these obstacles, the committee praised the NCDC board and management for establishing a solid operational framework.
Senator Titus Zam, the committee chairman, shared these insights following a briefing from NCDC Managing Director Dr. Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil. Although funding remains significantly below the approved budget levels, Senator Zam expressed approval of the leadership’s vision and disciplined resource management. He pledged that the committee would coordinate with relevant government offices to secure the necessary capital for regional development projects. Additionally, the committee plans an upcoming oversight visit to the commission’s headquarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Dr. Tsenyil credited President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for their continued support. He reported that the commission has already begun collaborating with regional governments and various federal agencies, including the Rural Electrification Agency and SMEDAN, to drive growth. Furthermore, the commission has secured procurement approvals for upcoming projects and finalized a Strategic Development Roadmap to guide its future initiatives.
