Niger State Governor Bago Announces Yakubu Garba as 2027 Running Mate

Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago has reaffirmed his partnership with Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba for the 2027 Niger State governorship race.

Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago of Niger State has confirmed that his current deputy, Yakubu Garba, will remain his running mate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election. The governor shared this news during a briefing held on Tuesday at the Government House in Minna.

Addressing the gathering, Bago explained that while there has been significant public speculation recently, he is formalizing his choice to comply with the nomination requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission. He emphasized that Garba retains his position on the ticket.

Yakubu Garba, who hails from the Shiroro Local Government Area, has served as Deputy Governor since May 2023. Before his current tenure, he was a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing the Shiroro constituency and held various leadership roles there. His professional background also includes extensive experience within the state’s civil service prior to his entry into politics.
