The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initiate the arrest and prosecution of Nafiu Bala Gombe. This follows INEC’s confirmation that Bala’s assertion of accessing the commission’s protected nomination portal to submit candidates for the 2027 general election was entirely fraudulent.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, emphasized that the situation extends beyond internal party politics. He warned that allowing such claims to pass without consequence could erode public trust in Nigeria’s electoral framework and compromise the reputation of the commission.
The ADC expressed appreciation for the commission’s swift rebuttal, which identified the circulated documents as forgeries. However, the party insists that identifying the falsehood is insufficient. Abdullahi argued that those responsible for fabricating evidence and deceiving the public must face legal repercussions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The party maintains that this is a matter of institutional integrity. By challenging INEC to pursue the case, the ADC hopes to establish a firm precedent that protects national systems from manipulation. According to the party, failing to act could embolden others to spread misinformation, thereby destabilizing the democratic process.
The ADC reiterated its dedication to peaceful political competition and institutional respect, urging authorities to handle the matter with the necessary urgency to preserve the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral management body.
