Ondo State Government suspends 27 students for disciplinary issues

The Ondo State Ministry of Education has indefinitely suspended 27 students across three Akure secondary schools due to ongoing misconduct including bullying and truancy.

Authorities in Ondo State have placed 27 students under indefinite suspension following reports of misconduct. The students, who attend Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College, and CAC Grammar School in Akure, were removed from classes by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Dr. Akindele Ige, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, confirmed that the decision follows ongoing behavioral concerns that persisted despite multiple warnings. Ige noted that school officials had previously held discussions with stakeholders to address rising patterns of poor behavior, but some pupils failed to comply with expectations.

The ministry highlighted several issues, including fighting, bullying, truancy, and the sharing of inappropriate videos online. These actions have been identified as detrimental to the educational environment. Ige stated that the state is maintaining a strict stance against any behavior that hinders academic progress. The suspended students are prohibited from school grounds while their cases undergo formal review.

In response, the government has called for better oversight from school administrators and urged parents to become more involved in monitoring their children. Regular inspections will continue throughout public schools to ensure that safety and discipline standards are upheld.
