The European Union has underscored its commitment to the people of Gaza, labeling itself as the primary advocate for a two-state resolution. During a meeting of Foreign Ministers on Monday, High Representative Kaja Kallas confirmed that all 27 member nations maintain that Israeli settlements located in the West Bank violate international law.
Kallas, who serves as a Vice President for the European Commission, noted the ongoing difficulties in peace negotiations and confirmed that she is maintaining communication with Palestinian officials. Furthermore, the Palestine Donor Group, which includes international financial institutions and various nations, has successfully gathered €900 million in humanitarian funding.
In a separate announcement, the EU criticized the International Olympic Committee for allowing Russian competitors to return to global sports. Kallas argued that this invitation is inappropriate, given the rising civilian death toll in Ukraine linked to Russian military actions. She suggested that the move serves to validate those attacks.
The EU is also shifting its focus toward regional stability. In Armenia, officials will provide assistance to mitigate risks involving cyber security, illicit funding, and misinformation. Simultaneously, Moldova will receive a record €120 million through the European Peace Facility to enhance its air defense capabilities. Finally, the EU requested that Ankara respect the sovereign rights of all member states, specifically regarding maritime concerns raised by Cyprus over Turkish pipeline proposals.
