Wales captain Dewi Lake is expected to be unavailable for the upcoming Nations Championship match against South Africa this Saturday. The hooker, who has started every one of the 11 Tests under Steve Tandy’s tenure, sustained a groin injury during the recent 35-21 loss to Argentina.
Ryan Elias is projected to take the starting hooker position for the game at Kings Park, while Elliot Dee is slated to travel to Durban to provide additional cover. In Lake’s absence, Jac Morgan is the leading candidate to serve as team captain, having stepped into that role during the previous match.
The Welsh squad is looking to rebound after dropping to 12th in the world rankings. They face a formidable challenge against the reigning world champions, having previously suffered a significant 73-0 defeat to the Springboks last November.
