Public Hospital Medication Stock Levels Surge Past 90% in Kano

Kano state health officials confirm that essential drug availability in public hospitals has improved from 30% to over 90% under Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.

The Kano Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) reports that medication availability in state-run health centers has climbed from 30% to over 90% in just three years. Director-General Gali Sule announced this progress on Monday during a press event celebrating the third anniversary of Governor Abba Yusuf’s leadership.

Sule noted that the agency, which is tasked with the procurement and distribution of affordable medical supplies to public facilities, has seen substantial growth. When the administration started in 2023, essential drugs were largely inaccessible, with only about 30% availability. Consistent government action has since pushed these levels above 90% across the region.

Furthermore, the agency successfully paid off N1.2 billion in inherited debt to pharmaceutical suppliers by January 2026. This financial cleanup revitalized the supply chain and regained the trust of vendors. As a result, the Association of Nigerian Industrial Pharmacists plans to honor Governor Yusuf with an Award of Excellence on July 16 for his role in clearing these outstanding liabilities.
