Taraba Taskforce Apprehends Two During Illegal Gold Mine Operation

The Taraba State Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce arrested two individuals and seized mining equipment during a raid on illegal gold sites in the Bali Local Government Area.

A crackdown by the Taraba State Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce on Monday resulted in two arrests and the seizure of mining apparatus in the Bali Local Government Area. The mission targeted clandestine gold mining operations across the Mayo Kam and Gantu communities.

Led by chairman Emmanuel Jamu, the team conducted the raid after gathering intelligence for several weeks. While security forces successfully reached the isolated site, many miners managed to escape into the dense surrounding forests before they were cornered. Regardless, authorities captured two people attempting to flee and confiscated various tools, such as generators, pumping equipment, and excavation gear.

Jamu emphasized that the taskforce is committed to ongoing enforcement actions throughout the region. He issued a warning that illegal miners would eventually be held accountable under the law and urged local leaders to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities. The Taraba State government remains focused on protecting local mineral wealth, and officials confirmed that further investigations are scheduled for other sensitive areas.
