David Umahi Takes Legal Action Against Defamatory Claims Regarding Nurse’s Passing

Minister David Umahi is taking legal action against those spreading false allegations about a nurse’s death at his home, labeling the reports as malicious defamation.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has launched a legal battle against individuals spreading misinformation concerning the death of a nurse named Mary Habila. Recent social media rumors suggested that the circumstances of her death at Umahi’s residence in his home state were being kept hidden.

During a site inspection of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Super Highway on Sunday, the Minister dismissed these allegations as malicious. He clarified that the nurse’s family members discovered her condition, forced open her door, and transported her to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital. Despite urgent medical intervention, she unfortunately passed away.

Umahi emphasized that the incident was reported to local law enforcement, refuting claims of a cover-up. He confirmed that the deceased’s parents are currently preparing to speak with the media and will pursue their own legal challenges against those circulating false narratives. Furthermore, an autopsy is being arranged, pending formal approval from the family.

Regarding separate allegations linking him to a kidnapping suspect allegedly involved with the Ebubeagu security network, Umahi firmly denied any association. He challenged his critics to produce evidence of a connection and reiterated that, as a former governor, he could not be expected to personally identify every recruit within the state security apparatus. The Minister characterized these reports as politically motivated attacks and stated his firm intent to protect his reputation through the judiciary.
