President Bola Tinubu has instructed that every citizen in Nigeria must be registered within the National Identity Management Commission database before the conclusion of 2026. This directive was announced by the NIMC Director-General and CEO, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during a recent appearance on the Sunday Politics program aired by Channels TV.
Currently, the agency has registered a total of 137,371,080 individuals. According to Coker-Odusote, the President issued a specific mandate to reach out to every community to ensure full national coverage. The commission is working toward the ambitious goal of capturing the entire population by the end of the specified timeframe. To facilitate this objective, the NIMC is collaborating with various entities through the Identification for Development project supported by the World Bank.
