Labour Party presidential hopeful Chibuzo Okereke has confirmed that selecting Hajja Bintu Konto as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 election was based entirely on her professional ability and the country’s collective needs.
Speaking from Abuja this Saturday, Okereke characterized the nomination, which received party backing, as a significant milestone in the effort to install a government prioritized around the citizenry. He expressed that the selection process was strictly guided by what benefits Nigeria most, reflecting the party’s core values of integrity, competence, and inclusive governance.
Konto is recognized as a veteran nurse and a specialist in public health and development, known for her commitment to community improvement. Okereke noted that failing to include women in governance weakens national potential, comparing it to trying to applaud with only one hand. He praised Konto for her resilience, compassion, and professional excellence.
The candidate also acknowledged the support of party leaders, including Dr. Alex Otti, Senator Nenadi Usman, and Rt. Hon. Iheanacho Obioma. He concluded by calling on Nigerians to support the mission to build a secure, fair, and thriving country.
