Law enforcement officers in South Wales fired on a man suspected of possessing a crossbow. Gwent Police received calls late Friday night, approximately at 23:55, regarding reports of aggressive behavior at a residence on St Edward Street in Newport, where an individual was allegedly seen with the weapon.
A 21-year-old local man was struck by police gunfire and subsequently transported to a medical facility. Authorities report that he is in stable condition. Deputy Chief Constable Nicholas McLain described the event as a contained situation, confirming that authorities are not pursuing other suspects.
McLain emphasized that although incidents involving weapons are uncommon in Gwent, the department handles such threats with seriousness, ensuring their response is calibrated to the specific risk involved. Gwent Police has since directed the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for review.
