Members of the Abia State House of Assembly have raised alarms regarding an ongoing total blackout affecting areas serviced by Aba Power Limited. The disruption, which has persisted for nearly a week, has severely impacted both local residents and the manufacturing sector.
To address the crisis, Aaron Uzodike and Stephen Ucheonye, representing the House committee on power and public utilities, visited the utility company’s headquarters. They sought direct answers regarding the cause of the prolonged outage, emphasizing the negative effect on local businesses and artisans.
Professor Barth Nnaji, Chairman of Aba Power Limited, explained that the blackout stemmed from a gas supply failure. He noted that damaged equipment, specifically a switchgear and starter motor, prevented the necessary fuel from reaching their operations. While apologizing to the public, Nnaji promised that power will return once the gas supply is stabilized.
In response, Uzodike stated that the committee will maintain oversight to ensure electricity is restored promptly. He highlighted that consistent power is vital for industrial growth, business expansion, and the success of local artisans in the region.
