Haeran Ryu Sets Major Record With 60 to Lead Evian Championship

Haeran Ryu shot an 11-under 60 at the Evian Championship, setting a new major record and taking a three-shot lead heading into the final round.

South Korean golfer Haeran Ryu has surged into a three-stroke lead at the Evian Championship after posting a historic 11-under 60 on Saturday. This performance marks the lowest single round ever recorded in a major championship, pushing her tournament total to 19 under par. The 25-year-old, who captured her first major title at the Women’s PGA Championship last month, is now positioned to secure consecutive major victories.

Ryu narrowly missed a sub-60 round when her 30-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole finished just short. Her remarkable day included nine birdies and an eagle on the sixth hole, eclipsing the previous Evian record of 61. Akie Iwai of Japan occupies second place at 16 under, while Mao Saigo and Brooke Henderson sit tied for third at 12 under.

Meanwhile, overnight leader Lottie Woad struggled during her third round, carding a one-over 72. The 22-year-old English player has dropped into a tie for sixth place, trailing the leader by nine shots. Ryu remains cautious ahead of the final round, acknowledging the strength of her competitors and the remaining challenge in the fourth of five women’s golf majors this season.
