KACRAN Calls for Full Activation of Livestock Ministry

KACRAN has urged President Tinubu to grant full operational autonomy to the Ministry of Livestock Development to resolve economic instability and farmer-herder conflicts.

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has requested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expedite the full establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development. Currently, the association argues, the entity operates merely as a sub-department within the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

National President Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello issued a statement highlighting that the ministry remains hampered by insufficient funding and a lack of proper administrative structure. He expressed frustration that over a year since its inception, the ministry still lacks the autonomy and status necessary to perform its duties effectively.

KACRAN emphasized that a properly empowered livestock ministry is essential for Nigeria’s economic and security progress. By revitalizing this neglected sector, the country could improve food security, generate employment, and increase organic fertilizer production. The association believes this would mitigate the farmer-herder conflicts caused by the traditional migration of cattle from northern to southern regions.

Furthermore, the group noted that a fully operational ministry would boost the GDP, attract foreign investment into leather and dairy processing, and reduce the heavy reliance on imported animal products. Finally, the association praised the North-East Development Commission and the L-PRES project for their ongoing support for pastoralists, encouraging them to maintain their efforts.
