NELFUND Refutes False Reports Regarding Student Loan Maintenance Payments

NELFUND has officially rejected claims that federal student upkeep payments for the 2025/2026 session have been suspended, dismissing the viral social media document as fake.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has labeled a circulating social media post as fraudulent. The document falsely stated that student upkeep allowances for the 2025/2026 academic year had been paused.

Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, clarified that the notice, which bore her name and a July 10 date, is entirely unauthorized. She emphasized that no such suspension of financial support has been sanctioned by the federal government or the agency.

The misleading circular also claimed that payments for May and June were held back, citing a temporary freeze. However, NELFUND maintains that disbursements for tuition and maintenance are ongoing, fulfilling its commitment to support students at public tertiary institutions.

Oluwatuyi warned the public against falling for fabricated online content and AI-generated misinformation intended to damage trust. She urged students, parents, and academic institutions to exclusively utilize NELFUND official communication channels for updates. The agency remains dedicated to its mandate of transparency and consistent financial aid delivery.
