Osita Okechukwu Urges President Tinubu to Expand Vice President Shettima’s Economic Role

APC founding member Osita Okechukwu has suggested that President Tinubu assign Vice President Shettima greater control over economic affairs to help tackle the nation’s persistent poverty and hunger.

Osita Okechukwu, a key founder of the All Progressives Congress, has formally requested that President Bola Tinubu grant Vice President Kashim Shettima expanded oversight of Nigeria’s economic policies. This appeal follows the President’s decision to maintain Shettima as his deputy leading into the 2027 election cycle.

While acknowledging that Tinubu’s administration has achieved notable macroeconomic stability, Okechukwu pointed out that widespread poverty and hunger continue to burden the citizenry. He expressed satisfaction that the President chose to keep Shettima despite various political rumors.

Citing a recent report from the International Monetary Fund, Okechukwu highlighted that roughly 63 percent of the population currently exists below the poverty line. He argued that the administration must shift its focus from broad economic indicators to tangible improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.

According to the party chieftain, Shettima is uniquely qualified for this mandate due to his professional history in the banking sector, his academic credentials in Agricultural Economics, and his prior experience in governance. He believes these qualifications make the Vice President an ideal choice to spearhead initiatives aimed at rural development and inclusive economic expansion.
