Former DSS agent explains how Oyo hostages were rescued without ransom

A retired DSS official explains how strategic pressure on kidnappers’ families led to the rescue of Oyo pupils and teachers without ransom.

Seyi Adetayo, a former member of the Department of State Services, has revealed the strategy used to rescue kidnapped teachers and students in Oyo State. The victims spent 56 days in captivity before their release.

Speaking on TVC News, Adetayo credited the success to an intelligence-based approach that targeted the kidnappers’ support infrastructure. Rather than paying a ransom, authorities tracked down the families and associates of the captors, including their wives, children, and parents.

Security forces detained these relatives and shared footage of the arrests with the kidnappers to exert pressure. Additionally, the military and security teams neutralized supply chains and blocked escape paths. By combining these tactical maneuvers with ongoing negotiations, the authorities forced the captors to release the hostages unharmed, without exchanging prisoners or providing payment.
