Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun officially introduced the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, and his running mate, Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, to the Ijebu Traditional Council this past Friday. The event, hosted at the Awujale’s Palace in Ijebu-Ode, served as a formal appeal for royal endorsement ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the monarchs, Governor Abiodun explained that his endorsement of Senator Adeola is rooted in justice and professional capability. He noted that the Ogun West Senatorial District has yet to produce a governor in the five decades since the state’s inception, making this a matter of equity. The governor clarified that his goal is to ensure a smooth transition to a capable successor who will sustain his administration’s progress rather than seeking a third term by proxy.
The governor urged the royal fathers to grant Senator Adeola the same level of support they provided during his own tenure. He also praised Mrs. Adegunwa-Balogun, highlighting her extensive corporate background as a valuable asset for the administration. Furthermore, Abiodun reviewed his government’s accomplishments in Ijebuland, including the Ijebu-Ode-Epe Road reconstruction and initiatives in the Ogun Waterside region.
Senator Adeola promised to pursue economic initiatives, such as the Olokola LNG project and the development of a deep seaport, to transform the state. He also expressed support for the potential creation of an Ijebu State. In response, the Acting Chairman of the Ijebu Traditional Council, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba, confirmed that the council would back Senator Adeola’s bid and support Governor Abiodun’s own transition to the Senate, ensuring the continued development of the district.
