President Tinubu Authorizes Conversion of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa to Technical University

President Bola Tinubu has approved upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, into a specialized university focused on mining and engineering to drive industrial growth.

President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the transformation of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, into the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology. According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, this initiative aims to bolster technical training and human capital while tapping into Nigeria’s extensive mineral resources.

This decision stems from a request by Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, who argued that such an institution would better utilize the state’s natural resource advantages to support industrial growth. The new university is expected to offer specialized programs in mining, metallurgy, mineral processing, and modern technology. Its primary goal is to train a workforce capable of sustainable resource management and industrial innovation.

The move is part of the administration’s broader effort to tailor higher education toward national economic goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Consequently, the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission have been instructed to begin the formal transition process. President Tinubu reiterated that investing in specialized education remains a key pillar for fostering long-term economic development and national job creation.
