Search underway as building collapse leaves person trapped in Kano

A two-storey building under construction in Kano collapsed on Friday, leaving at least one person trapped as rescue teams continue their search operations.

A two-storey structure under construction on Sultan Road in Kano experienced a sudden collapse around 9 am this past Friday. While responders have managed to pull three individuals from the ruins, at least one person is still believed to be caught underneath.

Witnesses report that laborers on the top level recognized structural warnings and managed to escape the site just before the collapse. Despite their quick reaction, four men, including a security guard and a local tricycle operator, were initially caught in the wreckage. Shu’aibu Yaro, a worker at the scene, explained that the onsite engineer signaled the danger, which allowed many to scramble to safety.

The three rescued victims were rushed to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital to receive care for their injuries. Emergency teams are currently working to locate the final individual still missing beneath the site debris.
