Earlier this week in Ankara, the president declared the April 8 ceasefire officially void. That agreement had halted major military operations, though it was frequently challenged by sporadic violence. During those remarks, Trump strongly condemned Iranian leadership. He previously indicated that he would consult with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who have facilitated communication with Iranian representatives, though he emphasized that the responsibility for resuming negotiations lies with Tehran.
Military tensions remain high, as both nations have engaged in multiple skirmishes throughout the week. Recent incidents include Iranian strikes against commercial vessels and U.S. assets in the Middle East, which were met with retaliatory American military actions.
