To guarantee a smooth and secure voting process for the upcoming local government elections, the Edo State Police Command has ordered a lockdown from midnight Friday until 3 pm Saturday. Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem stated that the initiative aims to maintain order and protect voters, staff, and election materials.
During these hours, all movement of people and vehicles is banned, excluding essential personnel such as election observers, security teams, accredited media, and emergency responders. Police Commissioner Monday Agbonika confirmed that security forces are deployed across all 18 local government areas to enforce the directive.
Authorities warned that any violators will face legal consequences. The command encourages citizens to participate peacefully in the elections, adhering strictly to the protocols set by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
