Two passengers were arrested after smoking on an Air Peace flight from South Africa to Lagos, causing an emergency alarm and panic among passengers.

Authorities from the Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command, have apprehended two passengers following an incident involving smoking on an Air Peace flight traveling from South Africa to Lagos. The act triggered the aircraft’s emergency smoke detection system, leading to widespread distress among those on board.

The individuals taken into custody are 51-year-old Enaruna Prince Aghama and 43-year-old Tony Ajayi. Upon landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, Aviation Security handed the duo over to the International Airport Police Division for questioning. The disturbance reportedly began around 7:44 p.m. on July 9, 2026.

Evidence suggests the men not only smoked but were also consuming alcohol. When flight attendants intervened to enforce safety protocols, the pair reportedly became aggressive. Police Commissioner Ogunbode Olufunke denounced the behavior, emphasizing that threats to aviation safety are strictly prohibited. The command has confirmed that legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete.
