Grieving Son Assaulted by Masquerader on Way Home from Father’s Funeral in Kogi

A Facebook user identified as Prince Zaki has shared a troubling account of how he was allegedly assaulted by a masquerade while returning from his father’s burial ceremony in Kogi State over the weekend.

According to Zaki’s post, the incident occurred unexpectedly during his journey back from the event. He claimed the masquerade attacked him without provocation, causing both physical harm and emotional distress after what was already a difficult and emotional occasion.

Zaki did not specify the exact location in Kogi or whether any authorities were notified, but his post has sparked reactions online, with many condemning the attack and calling for stricter control of traditional activities that infringe on public safety.

Some commenters demanded that traditional masquerade performances be regulated to prevent such alleged abuses, while others called on local leaders to investigate the matter and hold those involved accountable.

“I went to bury my dad. On my way back home, the so called masquerade did this to me at idanuha. I know you haven’t d!ed but you claimed to be dead and did this to me. may Allah subhanahu wata’ala reward you,” he wrote.
