Two individuals detained in Oyo for digging up human remains

Oyo State police have arrested two suspects for allegedly exhuming a human skull from a burial ground in Ijio.

Law enforcement officials in Oyo State have apprehended two men accused of illegally possessing a human skull. This operation took place in Ijio, according to an official report released on July 9, 2026, by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command’s spokesperson.

Authorities initiated the investigation after receiving reliable tips regarding the possession of the remains. Police Commissioner Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga organized a collaborative task force consisting of police officers and the Amotekun Corps to investigate the matter.

The team successfully captured Shittu Isah, a resident of the Kajola area, and seized the skull as evidence. Upon questioning, Isah admitted to removing the remains from a local Muslim cemetery. He also named Tunde Ajibade as an accomplice, leading to his subsequent arrest. Both suspects are cooperating with investigators as the police prepare to conduct forensic testing on the skull. The state command continues to urge citizens to report suspicious activities to help maintain public safety.
