Kogi Police Apprehend Trio for Educator’s Murder

Kogi police have arrested three suspects accused of the murder of a primary school teacher following a series of assaults.

Authorities in Kogi State have taken three individuals into custody regarding the death of Mariam Usman, a faculty member at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro. The state police command confirmed the arrests following a thorough inquiry into the fatal injuries she sustained.

Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat reported that the investigation began after the incident was filed on June 25, 2026. Detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lokoja spearheaded the operation.

Evidence suggests that the victim was first assaulted at her home by Abdullahi Isiaka, reportedly as retaliation for disciplinary actions she took against his son at school. Subsequently, investigators allege that Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo accosted the teacher as she walked to a mosque. Additionally, Ojonojima Mary is accused of attacking the victim at the school premises on June 18.

Mariam Usman sought care at Grace Clinic and later Eleojo Clinic, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries. The police have finalized their report, charging Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Abdullahi Isiaka with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi praised his team’s diligence and reminded the public to pursue legal channels for conflict resolution rather than violence.
