Sultan of Sokoto Calls for Unified Front Against Northern Insecurity

The Sultan of Sokoto has urged northern leaders and citizens to unite against the rising wave of banditry and kidnapping, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar II, the Sultan of Sokoto, has stressed the necessity for northern stakeholders to unite in order to combat kidnapping and banditry. Addressing the 19th Northern Traditional Rulers and Governors’ Meeting in Kaduna, he emphasized that ensuring public safety is a shared obligation rather than the duty of one specific group.

The Sultan highlighted that defeating terrorism and criminal activity requires deep cooperation between the government, citizens, and security services. He pointed to the newly established Board of Trustees, comprised of leaders from all 19 northern states, as a vital mechanism for applying practical solutions to the region’s challenges.

Assuring the committee of the traditional institution’s support, the Sultan argued that the battle against instability must rise above ethnic and religious divides. He identified unity as the region’s primary asset and urged governors to ensure the initiative receives consistent financial backing, noting that successful intervention is impossible without proper resources.
