Former Vice President Osinbajo Takes Leadership of Nigerian Conservation Foundation

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has become the new President of the Board of Trustees for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, promising to boost the organization’s climate action and sustainability efforts.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s former Vice President, has committed to advancing climate initiatives and environmental preservation after being appointed President of the Board of Trustees for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF). During his acceptance speech at the 37th Annual General Meeting in Lagos, he honored the NCF founders, specifically President Emeritus Chief Philip Asiodu and the late Chief S.L. Edu. He praised their foresight in prioritizing biodiversity well before global climate issues became critical.

Highlighting the reality of climate change, Osinbajo pointed to rising local temperatures and severe flooding as indicators of the current crisis. He emphasized that recent extreme weather patterns in Europe and beyond demonstrate a global urgency. Despite these difficulties, he remains hopeful that scientific breakthroughs and modern innovation will allow Nigeria to address environmental degradation successfully.

Osinbajo recognized the NCF as the nation’s premier non-governmental group for climate protection. He plans to collaborate closely with the organization’s members, staff, and partners to enhance their ongoing conservation efforts. His appointment follows the retirement of Chief Philip Asiodu, who led the NCF for over two decades.
