Nollywood figure Emeka Ike has characterized relationships pursued solely for financial gain as a form of deception. During a conversation with BBC Pidgin, the actor asserted that individuals who enter partnerships primarily to secure funds are engaging in a practice equivalent to a scam.
Ike emphasized that while genuine love and marriage are profound commitments, they are being undermined by those who view romantic connections merely as financial opportunities. He suggested that if a woman’s primary goal is monetary support, she would be better off asking for money openly on the streets rather than misleading men under the guise of affection.
The actor stressed that love should serve as the foundation of any healthy union. He called for an end to the trend of using relationships as a revenue stream, urging people to stop feigning romantic interest for profit. According to Ike, the sanctity of relationships in Nigeria is at risk if they continue to be treated as economic transactions.
