Atiku Abubakar Demands Tinubu Identify Those Responsible for Missing 2% of Nigeria’s GDP

Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to name those responsible for an unaccounted two percent of Nigeria’s GDP identified by the IMF.

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has formally called upon President Bola Tinubu to identify the individuals behind the disappearance of funds equivalent to two percent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product. This demand was issued on Saturday through a statement from his aide, Phrank Shaibu.

The request follows an International Monetary Fund report indicating that the Nigerian government failed to account for two percent of its GDP in recent budgetary filings. Atiku argued that this finding suggests a systemic pattern of corruption within the current administration. He linked this issue to the recent controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, describing the government as one that utilizes public institutions for unclear financial operations.

Citing Section 80 of the Nigerian Constitution, Atiku emphasized that government spending must strictly follow procedures established by the National Assembly. He rejected the idea that the missing funds were merely a bookkeeping error, calling it a significant legal and moral issue instead. He insisted that the administration must disclose who authorized and benefited from these expenditures to maintain any credibility regarding transparency.
