Soldiers from the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE have successfully eliminated a militant believed to be involved in the killing of Professor David Salifu, the former Secretary to the Benue State Government. The former official passed away after being shot during an assault by armed criminals.
Ahmad Zubairu, acting spokesperson for the task force, confirmed in a Friday statement that a gunfight occurred in Jotar village, situated in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation began after military personnel received reliable intelligence regarding criminal activity in the Kyado region and moved to intercept the group.
Upon reaching the area, the soldiers engaged the kidnappers in a intense firefight. One gunman was killed, and the team retrieved an AK-47 rifle along with two empty magazines. Authorities suggest the deceased suspect was linked to the July 1, 2026, attack on travelers that resulted in the fatal injury of Professor Salifu. This action demonstrates the commitment of the operation to suppress criminal activity within its designated region.
