Police thwart planned attack by apprehending 11 LAUTECH students linked to cult group

Eleven LAUTECH students were arrested by Oyo State police for alleged cult membership and planning a violent attack, with authorities seizing various weapons during the operation.

The Oyo State Police Command recently took 11 individuals into custody, all of whom are students at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso. The suspects, believed to be part of the illegal Eiye Confraternity, were arrested after officers disrupted a planned act of violence within the campus area. The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) managed to seize various weapons, including four pistols, live ammunition, axes, and other dangerous tools during the raid.

Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade noted that the arrests occurred after authorities received intelligence regarding a gathering of cult members in the Under-G, Yuako, and Adenike neighborhoods. The suspects were reportedly organizing attacks that threatened the safety of the student body. During questioning, the detained men acknowledged their ties to the Eiye Confraternity and were allegedly connected to past criminal incidents, including homicide.

The individuals arrested were identified as Adedapo Victor, Taiwo Rasheed, Emeka Issac, Akande Segundo, Akande Julius, Stephen Opeyemi, Fortune Abel, Oluwatunmise Ayodeji, Adigun Oladimeji, Akande Moses, and Karim Kalid. Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga praised the team for their rapid intervention, which prevented a potentially deadly situation. The command is currently searching for remaining syndicate members and intends to prosecute those arrested once investigations conclude.
