Adamawa High Court clears former Nyako security aide of N80 million land fraud

A retired Chief Security Officer to former Governor Murtala Nyako has been acquitted by the Adamawa State High Court after the prosecution failed to prove allegations of an N80 million land fraud.

On Friday, the Adamawa State High Court cleared ACP Sheriff Abubakar Rabiu, the retired Chief Security Officer to former Governor Murtala Nyako, of all criminal accusations. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, the state’s Chief Judge, ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support claims of forgery, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and inciting public disturbance.

The legal battle originated from accusations that Rabiu misappropriated N80 million intended for the purchase of two properties in Yola. These properties, reportedly linked to Nyako’s Sebore Farms, were allegedly transferred to Rabiu’s personal possession and subsequently sold. Throughout the trial, which commenced on November 12, 2021, the state presented five witnesses to substantiate these claims.

In her final ruling, Justice Abdulrahman stated that there was a lack of proof regarding deceit or fraudulent inducement. Because the prosecution did not meet the necessary legal burden of proof, the judge officially acquitted Rabiu of all charges, concluding a high-profile case that has drawn significant public attention in Adamawa State.
