Law enforcement officials stated on Thursday that the recent rise in security personnel and the installation of roadblocks throughout Abuja are standard procedures designed to uphold peace. These actions aim to provide a sense of security for local residents, foreign diplomats, and business investors within the Federal Capital Territory.
These barriers, positioned at key points across the city center, have led to travel delays for commuters. Authorities clarified that these measures are proactive efforts to prevent public disorder during a period of frequent demonstrations. During a joint briefing, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Anietie Iniedu emphasized that the increased presence is not linked to any specific threat and urged the public to remain calm. He noted that the primary goal is to ensure the capital remains a stable environment for government institutions, embassies, and the international business community.
Furthermore, Iniedu announced that the Nigeria Police Force is transitioning toward a model of intelligence-led community collaborative policing. This updated strategy focuses on active partnerships with local neighborhoods, such as implementing handshake police patrols, to better address modern security concerns through direct cooperation rather than relying solely on intelligence gathering.
