Iyabo Obasanjo Reveals Reasons Behind Her Departure From APC

Iyabo Obasanjo reveals that unfulfilled commitments by the APC’s consensus candidate led to her resignation and subsequent return to the PDP in Ogun State.

Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has provided clarity regarding her recent exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC). During an interview on the Morayo Show, she stated that her decision to leave stemmed from frustration after the party’s consensus candidate in Ogun State reneged on commitments made to both her and her supporters.

Following her departure from the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State formally welcomed the former senator on Wednesday. Obasanjo had initially re-entered the political arena in January 2026 after a 15-year hiatus, joining the APC with intentions to pursue the governorship. Ultimately, she resigned on May 31, 2026, after failing to secure the gubernatorial nomination, pointing to issues of betrayal, disrespect, and inequitable treatment by the party’s hierarchy as the primary factors.
