Joint Security Forces Rescue Two Hostages, Kill Suspected Kidnapper in Oyo

A collaborative security operation in Oyo State has successfully rescued two abducted men and neutralized one kidnapper, with efforts ongoing to locate a third missing victim.

A collective security task force has successfully freed two kidnap victims held captive in Gaa Alhaji, located in the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State. The mission, which involved the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, and local hunters, also resulted in the death of one suspected kidnapper.

The ordeal began on June 29 at approximately 8:30 p.m. when armed attackers raided the camp of Alhaji Gbonkan, seizing three men: Alhaji Usman Abubakar, Aliu Usman, and Saliu Abubakar. In response, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga ordered an immediate rescue mission centered in the Ipapo area.

Using intelligence and forensic evidence from the scene, the security team tracked the criminals into the forest. A fierce gun battle ensued at the kidnappers’ hideout, leaving one suspect dead while others fled with potential injuries. One vigilante member was wounded during the confrontation.

Two of the three victims were recovered. One required hospital care for a gunshot injury, while both are currently stable. The third victim managed to escape during the chaos and remains the target of an ongoing search operation. Police officials remain confident that he is safe and will soon be recovered.

Commissioner Olugbenga praised the collaboration between the various security agencies, pledging that the hunt for the escaped gang members will continue. Authorities are requesting that local residents report any individuals seeking medical care for suspicious gunshot wounds, promising complete anonymity for those who assist with credible tips.
