The Nigerian Presidency has officially stated that Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila lacks the authority to issue appointment letters or make official appointments. This clarification follows allegations from Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to lead the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), that he paid N600 million to secure his position.
Special Adviser to the President Bayo Onanuga dismissed these accusations, noting that the PFIPC is a fabricated entity. Onanuga explained that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation is the only body permitted to handle official appointments. Investigations revealed that Adeyemi utilized forged documents and falsified seals to impersonate a government official, even misleading the Accountant-General’s office to open bank accounts.
Police investigations confirmed that Adeyemi orchestrated an elaborate scam, operating from a fake office and attempting to secure diplomatic assistance for personal gain. Authorities arrested Adeyemi in October 2025, discovering he operated over 30 bank accounts linked to fictitious agencies. While Adeyemi has been charged with forgery and impersonation, he has continued to spread conflicting claims regarding the Chief of Staff.
The Presidency urged the public to disregard these claims, pointing to Adeyemi’s past history of fraudulent activities, including a 2016 incident where he falsely posed as a UN representative. As legal proceedings against him and his accomplices advance at the Federal High Court in Abuja, officials cautioned against spreading unverified narratives that could interfere with the ongoing judicial process.
